Austin's culinary community is struggling. Here's how you can help.

The Austin Food and Wine Foundation sent out the below email to the Austin area in light of the recent cancellation of several major events such as SXSW, which the food industry in Austin largely banks upon each year for a large portion of their yearly income. It is hard enough to make it in the food world. Let's each do our part in this scary time to make sure that the hard working chefs and restauranteurs survive!

In light of the global spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus and the subsequent cancellation of South by Southwest (SXSW), many locals have enquired about the most immediate way to provide relief to those most affected by recent events. The Austin Food & Wine Alliance is grateful that our friends at the Southern Smoke Foundation have stepped in to administer a fund that directly benefits the Austin culinary community. Donations to The Austin Relief Fund will provide swift support to individuals and businesses suffering a loss of income by SXSW's cancellation. Should workers contract the coronavirus, funds will also provide emergency aid to those unable to remain on the job. It is unknown how long the pandemic will impact our community, but we are grateful that Southern Smoke has our back during the duration.
